CHILD'S DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES

This milestone guidelines are based on the Developmental Stages of Play by a Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget. “According to Piaget, children engage in types of play that reflect their level of cognitive development: functional play, constructive play, symbolic/fantasy play, and games with rules.”

FUNCTIONAL PLAY

Physical and experimenting with the world through their senses. Age 0-24 Months

This stage, children wants to play with toys and objects to accomplish a goal. Ages 24 Months+

SYMBOLIC FANTASY PLAY

Children play make believe games and role play at this stage. So give them dress-up clothes and pretend play items. Age 36 Months+

GAME WITH RULES

Children play games with friends with preset rules. They understand how to follow rules and if someone break the rules there are consequences. Ages 36 Months+ until adulthood.
